FRANKLIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — Flags across Pennsylvania will be flown at half-staff on Saturday to honor Krystofer Lopez, an 18-year-old U.S. Army soldier who was killed in a training incident at the Letterkenny Army Depot on Thursday.

Lopez served as a 31B/military police officer for the LEAD Directorate of Emergency Services Law Enforcement Division and was a Personnel Force Innovation (PFI) member assigned to the 947th Quartermaster Company, a tenant unit based out of Letterkenny Army Depot.

Gov. Josh Shapiro said Saturday that Lopez “made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.”

“[First Lady] Lori [Shapiro] and I join 13 million Pennsylvanians in praying for his loved ones and the entire U.S. Army Reserve family,” Shapiro wrote on Facebook. “May his memory be a blessing.”

Lopez enlisted his junior year of high school and wrestled for Biglerville. He later attended Shippensburg University.

Because of his sacrifice, Letterkenny Army Depot posthumously promoted Lopez to the rank of specialist.
