READING, Pa. – Reading officials announced the return of curbside leaf collection in city neighborhoods.

Reading Public Works crews will begin picking up leaves curbside in various areas throughout the city starting Monday, October 13.

Residents are asked to not put grass clippings, branches, brush or any other debris under or in loose leaf piles, as items like these will damage equipment.

Weather conditions, equipment and personnel availability, and emergencies could cause delays in collection, officials say.

The areas slated for curbside leaf collection include the 18th Ward-South of Penn areas, Northeast-Hampden Heights areas, Hessian Camp-East Reading areas, Northwest area, and Northmont-Riverdale-Glenside areas.

City officials say there is not a set schedule or pattern for curbside loose leaf collection but crews will be out operating daily.

In addition, the leaf bag collection schedule is as follows:

Mondays: Northeast areas of the city

Tuesdays: Center City, East Reading, 18th Ward, South of Penn areas

Wednesdays: Northwest, Northmont, Riverdale, Glenside areas

City crews will continue to provide service for bagged leaves on normal yard waste collection days. All leaves that are bagged must be in biodegradable paper bags. No plastic bags will be accepted.

The last scheduled day for leaf collection will be Friday, December 5.

For daily progress reports or bagged leaf pick up schedule information, residents are asked to call the Streets Division at 610-655-6285.
