Steelers biggest offseason need revealed and it’s not QB.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a big question mark at quarterback, but it’s not even the most glaring need.

Pittsburgh signed veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a one-year deal last offseason, and he thought that would be his final season. However, despite there being some uncertainty at quarterback, Steelers insider Mike DeFabo of The Athletic believes left guard is the biggest need.

“Aside from that one glaring hole, the Steelers added a much-needed WR2 (Michael Pittman Jr.), a starting corner opposite Joey Porter Jr. (Jamel Dean), a running back to round out the room (Rico Dowdle) and some safety options (Jaquan Brisker and Darnell Savage). The other obvious area of need is a starting left guard after Isaac Seumalo departed in free agency,” DeFabo wrote.

Although Seumalo had some struggles, he did ink a three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals. So, Pittsburgh needs to find a starting left guard, whether that happens in free agency or the draft.

As of right now, the Steelers’ starting left guard would be Spencer Anderson, and DeFabo believes Pittsburgh needs to address the position.

Steelers Reportedly ‘Content’ With Anderson

Although DeFabo believes left guard is the most pressing need, another Steelers insider reported the team is content with Anderson starting.

Gerry Dulac of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette wrote in his weekly chat, that the Steelers are comfortable with Anderson, a 2023 seventh-round pick, replacing Seumalo.

“I thought guard was next up on the list, based on what I was told at the combine. But they apparently are content now with Spencer Anderson in that role,” Dulac wrote.

Anderson does have starting experience, as he started four games in 2024 due to Seumalo’s injury. In 2025, he also started to work as a tackle, but he’s best at guard, and his workload has increased as Anderson had 457 offensive snaps last season.

Although the Steelers are content with Anderson starting at left guard, Pittsburgh still could look to bring in some depth options, whether that’s in free agency or the draft.

Pittsburgh Hopeful Rodgers Returns

The Steelers have yet to address the quarterback position, as the team is hoping Rodgers returns for another season.

Rodgers led Pittsburgh to an AFC North title and the playoffs, but the team has yet to re-sign him. DeFabo, meanwhile, reported earlier in the week that the Steelers believe Rodgers will return.

“While general manager Omar Khan said at the NFL Scouting Combine that he doesn’t anticipate the indecision will drag out like it did last year,” DeFabo wrote. “And the prevailing sentiment from inside the organization is that the team believes an answer will come sometime this month, the Steelers ended Wednesday as one of the NFL’s few teams without a clear-cut QB1 in place or an obvious path to land one.

“That said, while the Steelers don’t have a signature on a dotted line, the moves they made suggest they’re trying to win in this 42-year-old QB’s window.”

Pittsburgh traded for Michael Pittman Jr. to give Rodgers another weapon to help him on offense if he does return. But, as of right now, no deal has been made with Rodgers to return.
