Winds gusting to about 40 mph Saturday have led to power outages around the Lehigh Valley.

As of about 3 p.m., more than 700 customers in Lehigh and Northampton counties were reported without power, according to outage maps from PPL and Met-Ed.

A wind advisory for the region expired at 2 p.m., but strong gusts have continued, along with outages in several locations.

PPL reported several smaller outages in Lehigh County affecting 182 total customers. The largest, affecting 141 customers, was on South Mountain in Allentown, north of East Rock Road and east of Route 145. Two outages, one near Lincoln Avenue and Hamilton Boulevard in South Whitehall Township, which stilled 31 electrical meters, and the other in Upper Milford Township, affecting 9 customers, were attributed to downed tree limbs.

An outage near Fish Hatchery Road in Allentown was caused by unspecified weather, according to the utility, and was resolved in the early afternoon.

Met-Ed reported two outages in Northampton County, each cutting power to more than 250 customers, near Mount Bethel and in Wind Gap. Both were attributed to limbs on power lines. The Wind Gap outage was largely resolved by mid-afternoon, with fewer than 20 customers still without power.

Sustained winds of 25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, were expected to continue through Saturday afternoon, according to the weather service forecast. Winds will calm overnight, dropping to 5-10 mph.
