Sandra Manzo Whitlock
OBITUARY
Sandra Manzo Whitlock, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and lifelong advocate for the arts and animals, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 11, 2026.
Born on October 3, 1941, Sandra was the daughter of Italian immigrants Dominic Manzo and Jean Biagoni Manzo. She was deeply proud of her heritage and carried forward her familys traditions of hard work, creativity, and service to others throughout her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband, William Whitlock; her son, William Whitlock, Jr. and his wife, Leng; her grandson, Liam Whitlock; and her daughter, Kendra Whitlock Ingram and her husband, Ben Ingram. She is also survived by her loving sisters, Sylvia Mulherin and Bettina Manzo.
For 35 years, Sandra dedicated her career to nurturing creativity and self-expression as an art teacher in the Scranton Public Schools, spending many of those years at South Scranton Intermediate. Beyond the classroom, she gave generously of her time and heart, volunteering for many community causes – especially those connected to the arts, animal welfare, and local history. She especially loved volunteering with the Lackawanna Historical Society and supporting organizations that reflected her love for the natural and creative world.
A lifelong lover of animals, Sandra was a vegetarian who devoted herself to caring for stray and sheltered cats, offering them comfort and safety. Her family and friends will remember her for her kindness, curiosity, and unwavering dedication to making the world a more beautiful and humane place
Family and friends are invited to a visitation on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Cats and Dogs of Nay Aug Zoo, reflecting Sandra’s lifelong love and care for animals.
