Russel A. Rhoads Jr.
OBITUARY
Russel A. Rhoads Jr., 89, of Blandon, passed away on December 13, 2025 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Cheryl A. (Bieber) Rhoads, who passed away on March 3, 2021. They shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Reading, PA on June 4, 1936, he was the son of the late Russel A. Sr. and Mamie A. (Spatz) Rhoads.
Russel was a member of the last graduating class of Sinking Spring High School in 1954. He remained lifelong friends with many of his classmates, enjoying monthly lunches with them in retirement. After high school, Russel served in the Army from 1954-1956 with the 4th Infantry Division stationed in Germany.
Russel retired from Brandywine Heights Area SD. Prior to that he worked for 26 years at Yuasa. He was a past president and 40-year member of the Blandon Lions Club, past president of the Maidencreek UCC Church council, and past president of the Fleetwood Activities Booster Club. He was also a past treasurer of the Maidencreek Township Authority. He was a life member of Liberty Fire Co., Sinking Spring, Berks County Fireman Association, PA Sports Hall of Fame (Berks Chapter), and the Reading Berks Basketball Association. He was a member of Maidencreek Church, Sinking Spring Area Historical Society, and the Sinking Spring High School Alumni Association.
In retirement he enjoyed going to shows at Dutch Apple and Blandon Senior Citizen trips with Cheryl, drinking his coffee while reading the paper before sunrise, watching the Phillies, looking for deer out the window, and sitting on the front porch with his friend and neighbor Neal.
Russel is survived by his children: Denise Henry (Denny), Willow Street, Lori Rohrbach (Bruce), Sinking Spring, Ray Rhoads (Sue), Wernersville, Ryan Rhoads, Blandon, and Cody Rhoads (fiancée Emily Roggie), Blandon . There are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Russel is also survived by a brother-in-law, Dean Bieber (Elaine), and a sister-in-law, Carrol Rhoads.
He was predeceased by his brother, Terry Rhoads, and his sister, Marilyn Rhoads.
The family wishes to thank Russel’s hospice team, Lisa, Linda, Doug and Julian for the exceptional care they provided over the past 14 months.
Per Russel’s wishes, there will be no formal service at this time. He and Cheryl will be interred at Pleasant View Cemetery, Sinking Spring, at the convenience of the family.
