READING, Pa. – Dyeing eggs is a common activity when it nears Easter, but have you heard of German Scratch Eggs?

It’s a traditional Pennsylvania German way to decorate easter eggs!

People got to come out for a class to learn all about it at the Berks History Center on Saturday.

Traditionally you boil eggs with onion skins — which leaves behind a dye from the onions.

Once it’s done, you scratch a design into the egg — revealing the white underneath.
