NORTHAMPTON, Pa. – The man who fled from police into the Lehigh River on Thursday has been found dead on Saturday, according to the Lehigh County Coroner. 

The 46-year-old man from Northampton was pronounced dead on Saturday at 4:20 p.m. at the scene in the 200 block of North 2nd Street in Coplay, according to the coroner.

He was recovered from the Lehigh River in approximately nine feet of water, the coroner said. 

Recovery teams were called to the area of Canal Street Park, coroner Dan Buglio said. 

An autopsy will be performed on Tuesday at the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center to determine the cause and manner of death. 

The coroner says that his identity will not be released at this time as this is an active and ongoing investigation.
