BASEBALL SCHEDULE/RESULTS

DAVENPORT, FL | The Farmingdale State College baseball team has played three games on its spring break trip to Davenport, Florida with four more games remaining.

Friday, March 13

The Rams opened their Florida schedule with a 10-0 loss to Clarkson University on Friday evening. 

Freshmen Matt Faraone (East Yaphank, N.Y.) and Joseph Lanza (East Meadow, N.Y.) produced a hit and a walk, respectively, in the loss.

Freshman Robert Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) tossed two scoreless innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts.

Saturday, March 14

FSC took on the University of Scranton in a 7-inning doubleheader and fell 6-5 in game one and 13-3 in the second game.

The Rams jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as junior second baseman Ryan Wasserman (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) opened the game with a single before senior first baseman Dom LaFroscia (Sayville, N.Y.) added a hit and senior right fielder Richie Heyder (Holbrook, N.Y.) drew a walk to load the bases. FSC tallied runs on an RBI single by sophomore left fielder Mike D’Angelo (Mineola, N.Y.), a walk by sophomore shortstop Kaolis Delacruz (Levittown, N.Y.) and an RBI groundout by junior third baseman Christian Villacci (Nesconset, N.Y.).

After Scranton responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, FSC regained the lead in the fourth when Faraone delivered an RBI single and LaFroscia followed with an RBI double to go up, 5-3.

The Royals used a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a two-run single in the fifth to take a 6-5 lead. The Rams were held to just one baserunner in the final two innings as they fell, 6-5.

LaFroscia and D’Angelo each tallied three hits, a double and an RBI for FSC in the loss.

In game two, Scranton tallied a nine-run second inning to quickly put the game out of reach.

FSC recorded its runs on RBI hits by freshman John Francisco (Smithtown, N.Y.) and senior Christopher Sais (Hicksville, N.Y.).

Junior Tommy Gorham (Floral Park, N.Y.) highlighted FSC’s pitching staff with two scoreless innings, facing six batters and striking out all six. Freshman James Minutillo (Medford, N.Y.) posted a scoreless inning in relief with two strikeouts.

The Rams have four more games in Florida, including back-to-back 9-inning contests versus Coe and Rutgers-Camden on Monday (March 16).
