BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A manufacturer of food and beverage packaging is planning to expand its facilities in Bethlehem.

The Bethlehem Planning Commission on Thursday reviewed a land development plan for 1355 Easton Road, where manufacturer Ecopax seeks to construct a 104,238-square-foot warehouse addition to an existing 315,643-square-foot manufacturing and warehousing facility. The parcel totals roughly 24 acres or one million square feet.

Located in LVIP VII lots 53 and 54, the new facility will offer 12 additional truck parking spaces and six loading docks.

“The company has been successful and needs more manufacturing space at their facility,” said Laura Eberly, with Reuther and Bowen, who spoke Thursday on behalf of the applicant.

Overall, the plan was met with a positive response, but extra attention was given to comments related to emergency services’ ability to reach the facility and the number of fire hydrants on the property, as well as stormwater management concerns.

The commission voted unanimously to approve the plan contingent upon the applicant satisfying the requirements outlined in the city’s review letter specifically related to the addition of two fire hydrants to the site.
