Funeral details have been released for internationally known Pittsburgh sculptor Thaddeus G. Mosley Jr., who died March 6 at age 99.
Following a private service for family only, a public reception will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at 7000 Meade Place in North Point Breeze.
In a statement, his son, Pittsburgh City Councilor Khari Mosley, thanked the community for “wrapping [their] arms around our family at this difficult time,” and that they “look forward to seeing you next weekend.”
The Mosley family also said plans are in the works to celebrate what would have been Thaddeus Mosley’s 100th birthday, in July.
Born in New Castle and eventually moving to Pittsburgh, Thaddeus Mosley’s work has been displayed from Pittsburgh to New York and Martha’s Vineyard, as well as points abroad.
While Mosley was long known and beloved in Pittsburgh — he was named Pittsburgh Center for the Arts’ Artist of the Year in 1979 — the self-taught artist achieved much of his acclaim after age 90.
