The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned defenseman Alex Alexeyev to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League (AHL).

There was no announcement made by the team but the transaction was reflected on the NHL media website and the AHL’s website as of Sunday morning.

The Penguins recalled Alexeyev to the NHL roster on Thursday, and he was a healthy scratch for two games before being returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Sunday.

At the AHL level this season, the 26-year-old Alexeyev (6-foot-4, 230 pounds) has appeared in 29 games and scored seven points (three goals, four assists).

A left-handed shot, Alexeyev is signed to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $775,000. He is a pending restricted free agent this upcoming offseason.
