Former Pittsburgh Steelers punter Corliss Waitman is signing with the San Francisco 49ers, per Tom Pelissero. Waitman had been the Steelers’ punter over the last two seasons, joining the team early in the 2024 season after Cameron Johnston suffered a season-ending knee injury injury in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons.
When Johnston returned from the injury in 2025, the two punters had a competition throughout training camp to see who would get the job, and Waitman won. The Steelers signed Johnston earlier in the week, though, which seemingly shut the door on Waitman returning.
In two seasons with the Steelers, Waitman averaged 45.95 yards per punt and had an average net yards per punt of 41.8.
