Auburndale, FL – The University of Mount Saint Vincent kicked off their Spring Break trip with a contest against the University of Scranton, with the team looking to secure their first win of the year. The Dolphins were stifled by the Tomcats by the score of 26-5, putting them at 0-4 to start the season.Â
Four Dolphins entered the hit column on Sunday, including two career firsts. Freshmen Niles Carter and Logan Garcia each picked up the first hit of their collegiate careers, with the duo going back to back in the first half of the seventh inning. Carter also drove in two of the team’s five runs with his two-RBI single.Â
Marcos Castro and John Anthony Spanoudakis also collected hits in the loss, with Castro also driving in two runs. Joseph DeSantis collected his first RBI of the year with a sacrifice fly in the seventh as well.Â
Ryan Sharkey was a bright spot on the mound. The junior pitched in two innings of relief and allowed just one earned run while striking out one.Â
UMSV will turn right back around with two games tomorrow. They’ll first challenge UMass Dartmouth before a showdown against Springfield.Â
