Severe thunderstorms and high winds that could cause flooding and power outages are likely Monday in the Lehigh Valley.

The storms could bring heavy rainfall and even tornadoes through late Monday night, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Storms could begin as early as 2 p.m., but forecasters said they will peak between 5 and 11 p.m.

Lehigh and Northampton counties, as well as neighboring Bucks, Berks, Carbon and Monroe counties, will be under a wind advisory from 2 p.m. until 2 a.m. Winds between 20 and 30 mph, with gusts of up to 50 mph, are possible. Winds could cause power outages as well.

All of Lehigh County and the western half of Northampton County have a 45-59% chance of severe wind, while the eastern portion of Northampton County has a 30-44% chance. The entire Lehigh Valley has a 2-4% chance of a tornado within 25 miles of it.

The strong storm system could bring heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding, according to the weather service.

After Monday, temperatures should drop into the 30s and 40s, before reaching into the 50s over the weekend.
