The Reading Choral Society and Ringgold Band join forces for a concert on Sunday at 4 p.m. in the Scottish Rite Cathedral in West Reading. The program celebrates America’s 250th anniversary and the 150th anniversary of RCS. The centerpiece is “The Testament of Freedom” by Randall Thompson featuring texts from the writings of Thomas Jefferson. Other selections include “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “America the Beautiful” and “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Professor Schnitzel

Egg hunt for dogs

The Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, 60 Vera Cruz Road, Reinholds, will hold a canine Easter Egg Hunt on March 28. The gate opens at 11 a.m., and the egg hunt begins at 11:30. Dog- and human-friendly canines are invited. Dogs must remain on a leash (6 feet and shorter, no flexi leads), and only one dog per handler will be admitted.

A suggested donation of $5 per dog will be collected. The Easter Bunny will be available for selfies. Reservations are requested at inza@dvgrr.org.

Amityville church events

St. Paul’s UCC Amityville, 1979 Weavertown Road, presents a spring turkey supper March 28 from 3 to 7 p.m. The cost to eat in is $16 for adults, $8 for children under 12 and free for kids under 4. Takeout dinners are $16. The buffet-style meal includes turkey, potato filling, green beans, corn, pepper cabbage, cranberry sauce, and roll and butter. Soup, coffee and pie will be served at the table. The dinner is accessible, and help with the buffet is available for those who need it.

On March 27 and 28  the church is holding a White Elephant Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday and starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.

Woodworking history

The Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley is holding a free educational program, “Cocalico Township 1783,” focusing on early craftsmen in Lancaster County. It will be held March 25 at 7 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 167 E. Main St., Ephrata. Todd Hostetter will focus on joiners and planemakers who made woodworking tools that helped build local homes and businesses.
