READING, Pa. – A murder trial is underway Monday in Reading in connection with the death of a Reading teen.
Hector Torres and Vashon Winfield arrived at the Berks County courthouse Monday morning to stand trial on multiple charges including first degree murder in the shooting death of 19-year-old Javien Perch.

His bullet-riddled body was found in a wooded area outside the city back in the spring of 2023.
The jury heard opening statements from the commonwealth and the attorneys representing Torres and Winfield.
The girlfriend of Javien Perch’s brother, one of the last people to see Javien alive, was first on the stand to testify.

Police and other key witnesses are expected later this week.
A third suspect – Ansari Jalal – remains at large.
