An Olyphant man dragged a pregnant woman through the house by her hair before she was able to run outside to safety, according to a criminal complaint.

At about 10 p.m. Thursday, officers were called to 525 E. Lackawanna Ave. for the report of a domestic assault.

When police arrived, they spoke with Samantha Lee, who said she was sitting outside in the car when Nate Cherry, 31, spotted her and locked her out of the house.

She told officers she was eight to nine weeks pregnant.

When Lee attempted to get inside the house through a window, accidently knocking over Cherry’s television, he became angry, she said.

Lee was afraid and began recording the incident on her cellphone.

Cherry jumped on top of Lee, kneed her in the stomach and threw her phone, before grabbing her by the hair and dragging her to the bedroom, according to the complaint.

Lee was able to get away from Cherry, run outside, lock herself in the car and call for help.

Cherry had left the residence by the time police arrived, but officers tracked him down at a local convenience store and arrested him.

Lee showed police a short video during which they could hear Cherry asking her if she was recording before the altercation started. Lee could be heard yelling at Cherry to get away from her, and the video briefly showed Cherry’s face.

Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene because Lee was pregnant. They informed officers Lee had fresh marks on her back, neck and arms.

Cherry remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $5,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on March 23 before District Judge Paul Ware.
