NORTHAMPTON – The man from Northampton who escaped police pursuit, but was later found dead in the Lehigh River, has been identified.
Police say 46-year-old Toddrick Bynoe was wanted on probation violations in Lehigh County and a failure to appear Northampton County Court bench warrant.
Bynoe fled from a Northampton residence Thursday and attempted to swim across the Lehigh River. Officials say the river is measured to be more than 100 feet across and over 20 feet deep where the man entered the water.
Police say they witnessed Bynoe attempt to grab onto a makeshift rope swing on the Lehigh County side of the river before he submerged and never resurfaced.
Multiple EMS teams responded, but after an exhaustive search lasting several hours, the search was called off because of weather and river conditions.
Bynoe’s body was located on Saturday in the area of the Lehigh River.
The Lehigh County Coroner’s office pronounced Bynoe deceased, and an autopsy was scheduled.
