OBITUARY
Sister Marise Fabie, RSM, a member of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas, died peacefully on March 11, 2026 at McAuley Hall Healthcare Center in Watchung, NJ. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, Sister Marise was the daughter of Constance A. Bridgeman and Joseph T. Fabie. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1949 and professed her perpetual vows in 1955. Sister Marise lived her life dedicated to God and service to the people of God through Mercy for 77 years.
A graduate of College Misericordia (Misericordia University), Sister Marise earned a degree in Music. Subsequently, she earned a Masters degree in Music Education from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh PA and a Masters degree in Education from Emmanuel College, Boston MA. Sister Marise taught grades 3 through college as well as served as a Principal between 1952 and 1986 in the dioceses of Harrisburg, Scranton, Altoona and Rockville Center, NY. In 1986, she began serving at Catherine McAuley Center, Scranton. With great passion and dedication, she served homeless women and children until 2017.
Music was one of Sister Marise’s greatest gifts and pleasures with her beautiful singing voice. She shared this gift with others adults and children alike through teaching, choir direction and Church celebrations. Music and singing were common expressions of joy within her family, and she brought that same joy to her life as a Sister of Mercy.
All of Sr Marise’s life was centered in God and for the glory of God. Sister Marise had a beautiful relationship with God, so she described her death as the fulfillment of that relationship to be with the One who captured my heart.
Sister Marise was predeceased by her parents, Constance and Joseph, and her brothers, Joe and Ted.
She is survived by her cherished and ever-faithful nieces and nephews, as well as many friends among the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Associates, and throughout northeastern PA and beyond!
The Sisters of Mercy wish to thank the wonderful staffs at the Sisters Residence, Mercy Center in Dallas and McAuley Hall Healthcare Center in Watchung, NJ, who generously cared for Sister Marise.
