Helen Semon

OBITUARY

Helen Semon, 82, of South Abington Township, passed away on Saturday, March 14th, 2026, at Geisinger Hospital in Danville after an illness.

Helen was born in Carbondale on July 18, 1943 to the late Joseph and Anna Schlasta. She was a graduate of Mountain View High School and graduate in 1961. She played high school girls basketball between 1958-1961 and in 2025 was recognized as the all-time leading scorer for basketball in Mount View history with 1,551 points. She had several jobs over the years. She worked as a seamstress at Jermyn Dress, held various roles at Casket Shells, Inc., and was a machine operator at Proctor and Gamble before retiring.

Helen was a lifelong member of All Saints Orthodox Church and loved to help make perogies and halupkies at the church. She also enjoyed listening to polkas, watching football, and baking nut rolls with her sisters, Betty and Joanie.

Helen is survived by her husband of 48 years Joseph and daughters Anna of New York and Christina of White Haven; brother Joseph Schlasta and wife Ann Schlasta; brother Theodore Schlasta; sister Joan (Joanie) Setzer; sister Elizabeth (Betty) Rebeck and husband John Rebeck; brother Nicholas Schlasta; sister Gloria Meholic; sister-in-law Mary Kurucz; sister-in-law Elizabeth S. Bonczar and husband Lawrence Bonczar; brother-in-law William Semon; nieces, nephews; grand nieces, grand nephews; and many cousins. She was a beloved wife and mother.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses on the 6th floor of Geisinger’s Hospital for Advanced Medicine for all their support, assistance, and kindness during Helens illness.

Viewing and funeral services will take place at All Saints Church, Willow St., Olyphant. The family will receive friends and loved ones on Wednesday, March 18 from 3-6pm, followed by Presanctified Liturgy with a Memorial Litya at 6pm. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, March 19, at 10AM, with interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery, Peckville. Services will be presided over by the Rev. Paul Witek, Pastor. Arrangements are under the care and direction of James M. Margotta Funeral Home, Peckville.
