Northern Erie County is under a winter weather advisory and southern Erie County is under a winter storm watch from the National Weather Service in Cleveland until 5 a.m. March 18. Crawford County also is under a winter weather advisory until that time.

Snow that started falling the afternoon of March 16 is expected to keep piling up ― from 2 inches to 8 inches depending on location.

Winter storm watch, weather advisory in Erie County
Southern Erie County, roughly south of Interstate 90, is due for additional snowfall of 4 inches to 8 inches by 8 a.m. March 18. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph during the morning of March 17.

In northern Erie County and Crawford County, expect additional lake-effect snow accumulations of 2 inches to 5 inches and morning wind gusts up to 50 mph.
Erie weather forecast for March 17
The weather service forecast for March 17 for the city of Erie and nearby calls for snow, mainly before 3 p.m., accumulating an inch to 2 inches. The high temperature will be around 27 degrees.
Snow is likely again between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. March 18, with a forecast for less than an inch of accumulation. The low will be around 13 and winds will diminish to 6 mph to 13 mph from the west.

March 18 is expected to be partly sunny. The high will be around 36 and the low near 32.
Temperatures will start to climb back into the 40s March 19, according to the weather service outlook.
