PENNSYLVANIA (WOLF) — The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that a fireball seen soaring across the skies of western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio early Tuesday morning was actually a meteor.

The NWS Pittsburgh office said on social media that it began receiving reports of a “loud boom” and “fireball” in the sky in the area, with satellite imagery suggesting a meteor entered the Earth’s atmosphere.

NWS employee Jared Rackley was able to capture footage of the meteor.

Officials believed the fireball was primarily detected around the area of Cleveland.
