A worker was struck and killed by a tree late Tuesday morning in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, police said.

The unidentified man was doing work for a tree company along the 300 block of Earles Lane around 11 a.m. when a tree fell on top of him. He was later pronounced dead.

“The tree that fell on the employee was unrelated to the work being done by the tree company,” a Newtown Township Police spokesperson wrote.

The incident occurred after powerful storms swept through Philadelphia, the surrounding suburbs and South Jersey late Monday night into Tuesday morning, causing toppled trees and power lines that led to widespread outages.
