CAMDEN, NJ — A man who was among the top 10 most wanted people in Ponce, Puerto Rico was arrested on allegations of drug crimes in Camden on Feb. 27, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Domitilo Delgado-Ruiz, 50 of Reading, Pennsylvania, was charged with first-degree possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance and third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
Delgado-Ruiz was wanted in Puerto Rico in reference to an attempted murder case, authorities said.
In February, detectives with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force were told that a suspect driving a Toyota minivan had a large amount of cocaine on him.
The van was said to be in the area of Penn Street and North Sixth Street, and also registered to an address in Reading.
Multiple detectives from different agencies worked together on surveillance of the car in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey before Delgado-Ruiz was stopped while driving on Feb. 27 in Camden.
At this time, authorities also learned that he was wanted in Puerto Rico.
He was taken into custody and to the Camden County Correctional Facility where he waits for extradition to Puerto Rico.
During a later search of the van, authorities found more than 12 ounces of suspected cocaine.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office, Berlin Township Police Department, Berks County District Attorney’s Office, and Reading Police Department all assisted with the case.
