SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — On North Washington Avenue, Alter Bar opened its doors.
The little sister to Alter House, a restaurant in Clarks Summit, Alter Bar is a modern bar and restaurant that specializes in creative craft cocktails and elevated bar food. Alter House focuses on working with local vendors and farmers to create a fresh menu and after years of planning, they brought it downtown.
“We were lucky enough to work with Charlie Jefferson, who is the owner of the building that we’re in, and then the owners of our business, Elisha and Patrick Nolan, and they worked together to put everything together and to bring a little bit of what we stand for up there, down here with a more kind of downtown industrial vibe to it,” said Alter Bar director of operations Jessica McCusker.
They promoted the opening of the new restaurant and bar at Alter House and held a soft opening last week. Today, they opened at 4 P.M.
At 4:04, all the bar seats had been filled.
Lauren Burke is a fan of Alter House, attended the soft opening, and was one of the over 20 people that filled the bar upon opening. She said she wasn’t going to miss it.
“Just hearing about the opening, everyone’s getting excited by it,” explained Burke. “The people who work here, they just get you to want to come back. The food is amazing. The drinks are amazing. The environment just makes you want to come back all the time. So, this was a very exciting thing for them to open a second location.”
As the afternoon went on, the space continued to fill, and the management hopes that enjoyers of Alter House will enjoy the familiar faces at a different place.
“So, our owners Elisha and Patrick Nolan have always been really involved in the whole family aspect, small business aspect, and Alter House started as a small family-owned restaurant in Clarks Summit and now we’ve been able to take that family and move downtown,” said McCusker. “So, we have our two different locations, but we have the same family and same familiar faces here, which is really important to us.”
Alter bar is now fully open at 116 North Washington Ave and is taking reservations.
