STORRS, Conn. (WFSB) – The UConn men’s basketball team is expected to leave campus Wednesday morning, heading to Philadelphia for their first-round NCAA Tournament matchup.
The men are the No. 2 seed in the East Region and will face 15-seed Furman on Friday night at 10 p.m.
A departure time from campus had not been confirmed as of Wednesday morning.
The UConn women’s team also enters the tournament, doing so as the reigning national champions with an undefeated record of 34-0 after winning the Big East Tournament.
They are the No. 1 seed and will host the University of Texas at San Antonio at Gampel Pavilion on Saturday at 3 p.m.
UConn is the only school in NCAA history where both the men’s and women’s teams won national championships in the same year, a feat accomplished in 2004 and again in 2014.
Fans are hoping to see it happen again this season.
The men’s team is set to spend the next several days in Philadelphia preparing for round one.
