The driver of a pickup truck was killed in a head-on crash with a trash truck Tuesday on Route 724, Cumru Township police said.
According to police:
Officers responded to the crash on Route 724, also known as Philadelphia Avenue, near Valley Stream Road that involved a trash hauler and a pickup truck, with reports of people trapped.
Emergency responders determined the pickup truck driver was dead. The driver and passenger in the trash truck were evaluated by by emergency medical services and transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
The names of those involved were withheld, pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
Philadelphia Avenue was closed between Valley Stream Road and Route 10, also known as Morgantown Road, from about 3 to 6:30 p.m. so police and the Berks County District Attorney’s Crash Reconstruction Team could investigate.
Preliminary information from witnesses and video indicates the trash hauler was eastbound on Philadelphia Avenue and the pickup truck was westbound. The pickup truck crossed the center line, colliding head-on with the trash truck.
