The Pennsylvania Senate has passed a bill that would allow certain farm vehicles to travel on public roads at night. According to the memo, proposed in December 2024, Sen. Greg Rothman introduced legislation aimed to “provide transportation flexibility for farmers.” Current state law prohibits Type A farm vehicles, which include most small cars and some trucks, and Type B farm vehicles, which include larger trucks, from traveling on Pennsylvania roadways between sunset and sunrise, Rothman said. In the memo, Rothman argued that the restriction does not reflect the ability of those vehicles to operate safely during nighttime hours. “Our farmers provide the sustenance we need to live, and the least we can do is remove onerous rules from their path,” Rothman said. “Just as a farmer doesn’t stop working between sunset and sunrise, neither should their vehicles be prohibited.” If approved, the legislation would allow Type A and B farm vehicles to travel on Pennsylvania roads between sunset and sunrise. The bill passed the Senate on March 17, 2026, and now heads to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. Stay with WGAL for updates as we learn more. See news happening?
