BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — A township man faces animal cruelty charges after allegedly leaving his dog in a hot car where it died while he gambled at Parx Casino, police said.

In a criminal complaint obtained by Patch, Bensalem Police said that 62-year-old Andrew DeShield left his pit bull mix, named Gucci, inside his car while gambling at Parx Casino on Sunday.

Police Officers rescued the dog from the car and rushed it to a nearby animal hospital.

Despite Gucci’s body temperature being 108 degrees, police say Deshield refused treatment and took Gucci home, the criminal complaint states.

Police came to DeShield’s house the next day and found Gucci dead in the back of his car.

Gucci was also dehydrated, his gums were discolored, and he showed signs of neurological issues as a result of his high body temperature, the criminal complaint stated.

Deshield was arrested and arraigned on June 30 before District Judge Joseph Falcone on three felony charges of aggravated cruelty to animals and related misdemeanors.

He was sent to Bucks County Correctional Center in lieu of $200,000 bail.
