CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — This week is Pennsylvania 4-H Week in a local county, which is recognizing the youth development organization.
Franklin County Commissioners proclaimed March 15-21 as Pennsylvania 4-H Week.
“The 4-H program continues to play a vital role in shaping communities, especially communities with a strong agricultural heritage like we have here in Franklin County,” said Franklin County Commissioner Chairman Dean Horst. “Thanks to 4-H activities and the volunteers who lead them, our children develop the types of life skills and leadership qualities necessary to be successful adults, and they see the importance of being active citizens in their communities.”
4-H is the nation’s largest youth development organization, the county said. In Pennsylvania, it is overseen by the Penn State Extension and reaches more than 77,000 kids ages 5 to 18. Activities include projects in animal science, civic engagement, STEM and more.
