Bank building deal should disqualify Cognetti
Editor: The mounting questions surrounding Mayor Paige Cognetti’s deal with Fidelity Bank aren’t just a Scranton problem, but a disqualifier for Congress. This arrangement involving state grants and city real estate deals benefitting a bank where her own family holds a board seat is exactly the kind of self-serving politics we need to leave behind.
If we want to actually move PA-08 forward, the choice is clear: Rob Bresnahan. Unlike the mayor, who seems more focused on backroom deals than taxpayers’ bottom line, Rob Bresnahan is a businessman who understands how to build things the right way. He has spent his career creating jobs and investing in our community without needing a government title to do it. Rob offers a level of transparency and common-sense leadership that Cognetti simply cannot provide while she is under this cloud of suspicion.
Mayor Cognetti should do the right thing and withdraw from the race. The people of Northeastern Pennsylvania deserve a representative who is beholden to them, not to their donors or their relatives. Rob Bresnahan is the only candidate in this race we can trust to put PA-08 first.
