A Lehigh County woman has been arrested and charged after, officials said, her daughter died while co-sleeping with her late last year.
In a statement from Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan, officials say Katrina Pantuso, 35, of Coplay, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of children and related offenses after her two-month-old daughter died while co-sleeping with Pantuso on Nov. 4, 2025.
According to police, officers were alerted to the situation at about 1:45 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025, when they responded to a home along the 100 block of South Front Street in Coplay on a call for an infant unable to breathe.
At that time, first responders found the child but, officials said, even though they tried life-saving efforts, the infant was pronounced after being taken to a nearby hospital.
The county coroner said the baby died from probable asphyxia, but officials said, the child’s manner of death could not be determined.
Also, the coroner noted that the child had injuries on her face and scalp at the time of her death, police said.
In a follow up investigation, officials said, Pantuso told officers that she had been co-sleeping with the child in her bed.
At the time, police found suspected marijuana on a nightstand next to the bed and a blood test showed the presence of methamphetamine, cannabinoids and methadone in Pantuso’s system on the night the child died.
A review of Pantuso’s phone revealed that she had used drugs the day of her daughter’s death and there were occasions when she had fed the baby and fallen asleep, dropping the child to the floor, officials said.
Police said investigators also found evidence that Pantuso had been warned several times about the dangers of co-sleeping with an infant and had been provided with a bassinette, that was at the end of the bed, in order to prevent her from co-sleeping with the child.
Law enforcement officials said that Pantuso is being held in the Lehigh County Jail under $100,000 bail as she awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 20, 2026.
