The Berks County commissioners unanimously passed an emergency declaration Thursday to fix damage at a maintenance building at the Heritage Center caused by storms this week.
The declaration will waive all requirements of procurement law related to the work.
The commissioners said repairs are needed to address the safety and stability of the roof, ceiling and structure of the building in Bern Township as a result of strong winds Monday night.
Larry Medaglia, the county’s deputy chief operations officer, said the damage at the Bern Township property was quickly discovered by county workers following the storms.

“We want to acknowledge the work of the facilities and parks teams who went out there and cleaned up the mess that we had from the storm,” he said. “Those guys jumped right in and got everything cleaned up so our residents can enjoy our parks.”
Commissioner Christian Leinbach said the winds that accompanied the storms Monday night were quite severe, with top wind speeds of 68 mph recorded at the nearby Reading Regional Airport.
