PITTSBURGH, PA — The founder of a large Pittsburgh-based appliance chain has died.
Donald Hillebrand of Don’s Appliances died on Monday. He was 82.
His death was announced on the company’s Facebook page.
“Don and his beloved wife Jill together founded Don’s appliances in April 1971, beginning a journey that would become a lasting legacy for their family and community,” the post stated.
“Though he remained humble throughout his life, Don’s story was one of quiet determination and perseverance.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the Hillebrand Family, and we honor his lifetime of hard work, generosity, and community spirit.”
Hillebrand’s appliance empire began in 1960s when he walked into a Maytag store with a help wanted sign in the window. A few years later, he made the decision to start his own business.
Don’s Appliances currently has 12 locations and employs more than 180 people, serving customers throughout Western Pennsylvania.
Pittsburgh-area locations include East Liberty, Robinson, Ross Cranberry, Upper St. Clair, Canonsburg and North Huntingdon.
