An Allentown man convicted of a 2024 shootout that injured six people near the city’s Dominican Festival has been sentenced to decades in prison.
Yunior Peralta-Quintana, 23, was sentenced Thursday to 40-80 years in state prison by Lehigh County Judge Anna-Kristie Marks, according to the DA’s office.
A jury in January found Peralta-Quintana guilty of attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm without a license and witness intimidation in connection with the Aug. 25, 2024, shootout on the 100 block of North Seventh Street, not far from where the Allentown Dominican Festival was occurring.
The other person allegedly involved in the gunfight, Miguel Ovalles Ubri, 29, of Allentown, was also charged and is awaiting trial.
“The investigation revealed an extremely chaotic crime scene that occurred that included surveillance and officer body-worn cameras that showed crowds of people enjoying the festival, including children and young adults,” Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan previously said. “They were sent scrambling for cover after a barrage of gunshots were fired at each other by both Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri.”
Police responded to the scene while the shootout was still going on, and two officers fired their guns. However, none of the people injured were shot by the officers, authorities said. The use of force was later ruled justified by Holihan. None of the responding officers was injured.
“The addition of extra officers patrolling the festival and nearby areas and their quick response and life-saving measures of treating victims with tourniquets most certainly saved lives that day,” Holihan said.
The chaotic shootout was captured on police body camera video. Authorities said 32 bullets were fired in the gunfight: 20 by Peralta-Quintana and Ovalles Ubri, and another 12 by the responding officers.
Testimony at Thursday’s sentencing hearing also revealed Peralta-Quintana admitted to being a Trinitarios gang member, Holihan said. The violent street and prison gang was founded in 1993 by two Dominican men serving time on murder charges at Rikers Island in New York.
The case against Peralta-Quintana was investigated by by Allentown police detectives Theodore Kiskeravage and Miguel Villa and was prosecuted by Senior Lehigh County Deputy District Attorney Patricia Turzyn and Assistant District Attorney Kinda Alhanna.
