HAMBURG, Pa. – Hamburg police confirm one person is dead after a crash on I-78 early Thursday morning.
Pennsylvania State Police say it happened at 4:41 a.m. near exit 30 on I-78 eastbound in Berks County between the Hamburg and Lenhartsville exits.
Investigators determined that a tractor‑trailer was traveling east on I‑78 in the warning zone before a work area when a 2020 Ford F-150 rear ended it. Police say the driver of that car was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene at 5:48 a.m.
According to state police, the victim was 46‑year‑old John Wayne Boring of Carlisle. The cause and manner of death are pending further investigation. Police say next of kin has been notified.
The stretch of I-78 has since reopened, according to the Berks County Department of Emergency Services.
