ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Three people were rescued, including two who were hanging out of second-floor windows, after a fire broke out at an Allentown home early Friday morning.

Five people were taken to the hospital, according to a news release from the Allentown Fire Department. Six people are displaced, including a child, fire officials said. The Red Cross is helping them.

Fire crews were sent to the 900 block of North Emery Street for a reported house fire shortly after 3:30 a.m., the city fire department said.  Smoke poured out of the home.

Firefighters saw two people hanging out of the second-floor front windows, and immediately worked to rescue them, according to the news release. A third person was rescued in the back of the home.

There were reports of three people that left the home before the fire department arrived, officials said.

City paramedics evaluated the people who lived in the home. Five people were taken to the hospital, and their condition is unknown, the city fire department said.

Officials said the fire was found in the home’s basement and was quickly brought under control.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Fire marshals are investigating.
