Lackawanna County is conducting an internal investigation involving members of the county sheriff’s office, county Solicitor Paul James Walker confirmed Friday.
The investigation began recently, he said, noting it “would be unfair and unreasonable to provide any greater level of detail” at this point.
Officials have not disclosed the subjects of the investigation or the nature of the conduct being investigated. It was not immediately clear whether a criminal investigation involving members of the sheriff’s office is ongoing.
Reached by phone Thursday, Sheriff Mark McAndrew said he couldn’t comment on the personnel matter. County spokesman Joe D’Arienzo said the same. Efforts to reach county Chief of Staff Brian Jeffers were not immediately successful.
Efforts to reach county District Attorney Brian Gallagher were unsuccessful Thursday and Friday.
The state Attorney General’s Office told the newspaper in a Thursday email: “We do not have any commentary on the matter.”
