Students from five elementary schools across the area enjoyed a circus at the Zembo Shrine Auditorium as well as a pizza party.
HARRISBURG, Pa. — Students apart of the AAA Student Safety Patrol from five different elementary schools were celebrated today in Harrisburg.
Over 100 students were recognized by the AAA of Central Pennsylvania during a ceremony at Zembo Shrine Auditorium Friday afternoon. Students were able to enjoy a circus while also being awarded a pizza party.
Program leaders say that the AAA Student Safety Patrol is more than just making sure kids cross the street safely.
“When they are doing these roles it’s about responsibility, when am I on safety patrol, when do I need to be there,” said 4th grade teacher Krista Kauffman. “They need to be on their best behavior, and be good role models to other kids, so I feel like it’s not just about protecting the other kids and making sure they go where they need to go but just those qualities in life that we need as adults.”
AAA says the program has created a 24% decrease in student pedestrian deaths since 2010.
