DALLAS, Pa. — In this week’s 16 To The Rescue, we meet a 2-year-old husky/mix who rescue workers say they never expected to be at the shelter for so long.

“He should not be here this long; there’s literally no reason for it. He has no behavioral issues, nothing. He loves every person he meets. A dog like him, I don’t really know why he is still here,” said Emma Ripka, Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge.

Rescue workers at Blue Chip Farm Animal Refuge near Dallas thought for sure Magoo would be there a few days; they never expected it would go on for months. Now, about six months later, they are hoping this feature is what he needs.

“He has a really goofy personality. He is a lot of fun to be with. He always seems to have a smile on his face, if you can put it that way. He’s curious, he’s very smart, he wants to please his people and just be with you,” Ripka said.

Magoo was very well loved and taken care of. His family was heartbroken to surrender him because of a change in living circumstances. Magoo can live with kids and other big dogs, but definitely no cats. Magoo is housebroken, crate-trained, and is excellent on a leash.

“He loves nothing more than being out with you. He’s the perfect mix of being active but also enjoying the downtime with you. So he definitely would like a family who at least walk him daily, do something to exercise him, but once that exercise is done, he’s a complete couch potato,” said Ripka.

Rescue workers at Blue Chip say Magoo has lost about ten pounds since he’s been there, which is one of the main reasons they wanted to feature him for this week’s 16 To The Rescue.

“We have done every single test we could possibly think of through our vet, and it’s just from stress. He can not keep weight on here. We’re really hoping someone will pick him. He will eat just about anything, he just can’t keep the weight on while he is here,” Ripka said.

But rescue workers say he isn’t showing any other signs of stress besides the weight loss, so they just know how quickly and how well he will adjust in his forever home.

“He’s obviously very depressed being here, so any family, I think he’s going to show them more love than you can imagine,” said Ripka.
