A driver died from his injuries after crashing his car as a police officer tried to perform a vehicle stop in Evesham Township, New Jersey, early Friday morning, investigators said.

On March 20, shortly before 4:40 a.m., an Evesham Township police officer in a marked vehicle tried to pull over another vehicle on Route 73 in the area of Greentree Road in the Marlton section of the township. The driver then crashed into another car that wasn’t involved in the police incident, investigators said.

The driver of the first vehicle died from his injuries. The police vehicle was not involved in the crash, according to officials.

One officer involved was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the driver who died or the officer who tried to pull him over. The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office of Public Integrity and Accountability continues to investigate the incident.

SkyForce10 was over the scene early Friday morning. Southbound lanes on Route 73 were shut down at Lincoln Drive West and reopened at Greentree Road while northbound lanes were closed at Greentree Road and reopened in the area of Commerce Parkway.

Southbound lanes have since reopened.
