Scranton Prep remained undefeated and is into the PIAA Class 2A girls tennis semifinals after a hard-fought 3-2 win over District 10 champion Cathedral Prep on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club.
The Classics (19-0) will play North Catholic (14-3), the District 7 runner-up, on Saturday at noon. North Catholic defeated District 3 champion Lancaster Catholic, 3-1, in the quarterfinals.
Lily Lengyel earned a win at No. 1 singles for Scranton Prep. Lengyel, the District 2 runner-up, defeated Paige Patsy, 6-2, 6-7 (1), 7-6 (3) in a tight battle. She improved to 8-1 in the state team tournament in her career.
Lengyel will face North Catholic sophomore Evelyn Marche in the semifinal match. Marche had a 6-1, 6-1 loss to Lancaster Catholic’s Serafina Billis in the quarterfinals.
Emma Cuck defeated Cathedral Prep freshman Ella Fetzner, 6-1, 7-6 (2) at No. 2 singles. Cuck pushed her career singles record to 79-2 and is 11-1 in the state team tournament all-time.
Cuck will also be facing a sophomore when she plays Marcaria Stall, who had a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win over Lancaster Catholic’s Jane Brubaker.
Hannah LaCoe protected her undefeated record at No. 3 singles. She defeated Lydia Beauchert, 6-4, 2-6, 6-0, as the sweep of singles matches secured the overall win. LaCoe improved to 19-0.
LaCoe plays North Catholic freshman Anna Ravotti at No. 3 singles. Her match against Lancaster Catholic’s Abby Millay-Stipe got halted.
North Catholic’s No. 1 doubles team of Ava Conley and Leah Kerman, and No. 2 team of Kaitlyn Abel and Claire Elliott both had wins against Lancaster Catholic.
