A Pennsylvania man who led police on a high-speed chase through the Back Mountain on Friday morning was found in possession of body armor, stolen guns and a to-do list of gas stations he was planning to burglarize, Lehman Twp. police said.
Michael Allen Pritt, 39, of Wynnewood, is jailed without bail on numerous charges after police say they learned he was driving a stolen car and was a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms.
According to the complaint, Lehman Twp. police initially contacted Pritt, who was driving a black Ford Edge, after he pulled behind the Citgo at 3251 state Route 118 around 3:45 a.m. Friday.
Pritt said he was low on gas and waiting for someone to send him money, police said. When officers offered to help, Pritt sped out of the lot.
He led officers on a chase reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph through the Back Mountain before crashing at the roundabout on state Route 415 in Dallas, according to the complaint.
Investigators discovered the vehicle Pritt was driving had been stolen in Philadelphia, as were two Glock 9mm pistols in his possession, according to the complaint.
Pritt, a convicted felon who is barred from possessing firearms, also had five 9mm magazines, a ballistic vest, a police scanner and a notebook containing the addresses of gas stations location around Northeast Pennsylvania, the complaint alleges.
Pritt later told investigators he had been in town researching stores he planned to burglarize at a later time, police said. He claimed he “gets paid to do this” but would not elaborate, according to police.
He did, however, volunteer that he would have started shooting had he been wearing the ballistic vest because he knew he would be going to prison for a long time, the complaint alleges.
Police charged Pritt with illegal possession of firearms, receiving stolen property, illegal possession of body armor, possessing instruments of crime, illegal weapons possession, reckless endangerment, fleeing police, reckless driving, careless driving and speeding.
Magisterial District Judge Rick Cronauer arraigned Pritt on the charges Friday morning and denied bail, deeming him a danger to the community.
Pritt was being held at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility with a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 31.
