Francisco Roman rushed for 131 yards and scored three touchdowns, and had a pair of interceptions on defense to spark Carbondale Area past Old Forge, 20-14, in a Lackawanna Football Conference Division III game Friday night in Old Forge.

The Chargers (6-4 overall, 3-2 division) jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first half, and then held off the Blue Devils (2-8, 2-3), who failed to convert on a fourth-and-3 from the Chargers 20 with 1:04 left in the game.

Carbondale Area got the scoring started after Roman returned a punt to the Blue Devils 30. Four plays later, Roman scored on a 15-yard run for a 6-0 lead with 8:17 left in the first quarter.

On the ensuing possession, Roman intercepted a pass and returned it 53 yards to the Old Forge 17. Again, four plays later, Roman cashed in with a five-yard scoring run. His successful two-point conversion run gave the Chargers a 14-0 lead with 4:45 left in the first quarter.

Then in the second quarter, the Chargers went on a 13-play, 70-yard drive, capped by Roman’s third touchdown run of the first half, this time from three yards out for a 20-0 lead with 6:14 left in the first half.

Old Forge started to get back into the game in the third quarter when it stopped a Carbondale Area drive at the Blue Devils 26.

The Blue Devils went on a 5-play, 74-yard drive that featured three receptions by Rasmus from Robby Solfanelli, including a 35-yard scoring strike with 3:27 left in the third quarter as Old Forge trailed, 20-7.

On the next possession, the Devils forced a Chargers punt, but a high snap allowed Old Forge to take over at the Carbondale Area 1.

Rasmus took it in from there, and the Blue Devils trailed, 20-15, with 55 seconds left in the third quarter.

The Chargers then went on an 8-play drive from their 40 to the Devils 26 before losing possession on an interception at the Devils 1.

Old Forge embarked on a 16-play drive, overcoming five penalties, and highlighted by a Solfanelli 21-yard run, his 37-yard reception on a throwback pass from Rasmus, and a 19-yard Rasmus run.

However, the Devils turned it over on downs and the Chargers were able to kneel on it to run out the clock.

Carbondale Area held Old Forge to just 15 yards of total offense in the first half and five yards rushing on 20 carries in the game.

Solfanelli was 13 for 21 passing for 177 yards and Rasmus had seven receptions for 111 yards.
