At approximately 1:30 p.m., Pittsburgh Police Zone 4 officers, the Mounted Unit, assisted by University of Pittsburgh Police, responded to Semple Street in Oakland to disperse an unpermitted gathering of several thousand people that was impacting pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

The crowd did not have a permit from the City of Pittsburgh to gather, and no authorization had been granted to close any part of Semple Street.

After police arrival, the crowd cleared without further incident just before 4:00 p.m. Officers were present to ensure public safety, maintain access for emergency vehicles, and facilitate the safe flow of traffic in the area.

Law enforcement remained on standby in the area to monitor conditions as groups subsequently dispersed into nearby locations.
