About 5:45 a.m. Sunday, fire crews were dispatched to the first block of Preston Road in Upper Providence Township for a house fire.

Police arrived first and reported a working fire in the basement, with fire crews close behind arriving at a 1½-story Cape Cod, according to reports.

According to Delaware County emergency radio traffic:

Crews reported all the occupants of the house were out.

There was heavy smoke in the basement with personnel trying to find what was burning. Crews believed that the fire was being fed by an electrical problem but were unable to get power to the house shut off for several minutes.

A PECO crew pulled up shortly after 6 a.m. to take care of that.

A “knock” on the flames was reported at 6:17 a.m. with personnel checking for extension. At one point, three hose lines were in service.

The job was placed under control at 6:39 a.m. Board up was sought for three windows.

There was a fire about 12 hours earlier in Upper Darby Township.

Crews responded Saturday about 6:30 p.m. to the 100 block of South Pennock Avenue for a scooter on fire near the house, then with fire extending into the residence.

According to Delaware County emergency radio traffic:

Searches were quickly done and were negative. Three lines were in service by 6:45 p.m. and the bulk of the fire was declared “knocked.”

The incident was placed under control at 6:55 p.m.

Investigators were called to the scene. Board-up was called for nine windows and three doors.

Official accounts of both incidents were not yet available. It was unclear where the residents of the houses were staying.
