The latest forecast for the Lehigh Valley shows the chances of rain and thunderstorms developing Sunday evening are increasing.
Across the region, showers are possible after 5 p.m. with thunderstorms possible later in the evening, according to the National Weather Service. The region has a 90% chance of evening precipitation, and some storms could produce heavy rainfall.
The severe weather potential for the Lehigh Valley includes the possibility of “isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms” that could bring damaging winds and hail up to 2 inches in diameter, according to the weather service.
The entire region is in the “slight risk” category, which the weather service categorizes as “increased confidence in severe storms occurring” noting that “a few severe storms could be significant.”
The greatest severe weather threat will fall between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., the weather service forecasts. Heavy rainfall could also lead to localized flash flooding, with the greatest risk coming along and north of I-95, the weather service forecasts.
Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms will be possible across the region this afternoon and evening. Damaging winds and hail up to 2″ in diameter will be the main threats. An isolated tornado can’t be ruled out for far western portions of the area. (1/2) pic.twitter.com/NWzxCHVIbC
