Coaching vacancies
Two Lackawanna League programs have coach openings.
Lakeland and Mountain View school districts each posted requests for applicants for their boys’ basketball teams.
Lakeland coach Trevor Tellip resigned after leading the Chiefs to the District 2 Class 3A semifinals with an upset over third-seeded Elk Lake.
Tellip, a Lakeland graduate, rejuvenated the program since taking over in the 2017-18 season and has 90 career wins. Lakeland’s best season came in 2019-20 when the team finished 18-6 overall. Three seasons ago, the Chiefs also had an upset over Holy Redeemer in the District 2 Class 3A playoffs.
Mountain View coach Jim McAndrew also resigned following the season due to a family move out of the area.
McAndrew was appointed coach for the 2023-24 season. The former Scranton High School standout and Marywood University assistant led the Eagles to the District 2 Class 2A semifinals in two of his three seasons.
