Following Wednesday night’s council meeting, the Erie Cemetery now officially has a historic designation.

The Erie City Council voted unanimously to approve an ordinance to designate the Erie Cemetery as a historic site.

Since 1850 – City of Erie designates Erie Cemetery as historic site

Supporters of the new designation will allow it more access to state grants and local programs to help them preserve the site.

The Erie Cemetery is the final resting place for many notable figures in Erie history, including Daniel Dobbins and General Strong Vincent.
